REstart is a program of the Bobby Jo Lewis Foundation. The Foundation has an important history behind its name- a history that has shaped the purpose of all that we do.
It was founded in honor of the memory of Bobby Jo, the sister of Board member and REstart co-founder, Linda Lewis CPM. Bobby Jo and Linda’s mother lost their lives in tragic domestic violence situations. As Linda moved to put her life back together, she searched for a way to honor her sister’s memory. Linda wanted to help other women to be strong, to face their fears, and to have healthy relationships. Most of all, she wanted to find a way to help them learn the importance of creating safe environments for themselves and their families.
The Spirit of the Bobby Jo Lewis Foundation and Linda’s dream is reflected in a letter written by Linda that is given to all incoming students-and found as an introduction to each class. The letter serves as an inspiration to REstart students, as Linda felt called to help all them fulfill their potential, despite the most adverse circumstances. She believed they can do it and she details her how-to process in her motivational presentation, “Courage is Contagious.” In it, Linda told a story of determination, responsibility, perseverance, recovery, and success.
These are the skills and values that the Bobby Jo Lewis Foundation shares with communities through the REstart program. One of the Foundation’s goals is to bring REstart to other interested communities throughout the country.
